Collaborating with Caroline Dewison – ceramic beadmaker

August 27th, 2011

With the words ‘Big trees from little acorns grow’ ringing in my ears and realising that I could not access real acorns in time to make the CANDALA for the launch of Peace PAX, I went on a persistent online search to find inspiration. This eventually led me to the work of  Caroine Dewison and her beautiful, acorn beads. Our conversation led to my discovering that that she also did etched copper pieces as well so I commissioned her to make  the central piece for the CANDALA.  We put our heads together and came up with the design. ‘The Acorn Circle’ is etched with the words  Peace PAX on the 4 cardinal points, with 4 oak leaves radiating out on the diagonal axis and a single acorn sitting in the centre.

It was a joy to work with you Caroline. Thank you so much for your beautiful photographs which we will put on our website.

Wonderful News! Orlando, chef and co-owner of Langford Fivehead in Somerset, and my friend of over 35 years, has kindly agreed to write the recipe for PAX Bread and to work with his sous-chef Sam Holliday. We are all in for a treat, that is assured. Thank you Orlando for taking on the challenge.

A Breakthrough Message from Margaret Gibney

January 23rd, 2011

The Global Circle of Peace has become very close to my heart. I am so grateful to have met a peer who shares my passion for social transformation and belief in the therapeutic value of creativity for personal and collective change.

I have gratefully accepted the invitation to become a Director of the project as I know that The Global Circle of Peace is helping to make peace a living reality.

Having worked with Lizzie, I have personally witnessed the healing and transformational power of this creative work. It has touched my life deeply and helped me to begin to reconcile old wounds and experience what it truly means to be at peace.

Creating peace is not for the faint-hearted. To achieve peace in the world, we need to have the courage to make peace a reality in our own lives. For Lizzie and me this has meant healing our own personal experiences of conflict and trauma – “going mining” as Lizzie puts it.

The ‘Create Peace’ workshops we are currently developing will equip others with the creative tools, awareness and confidence that have helped provide us with light in our darkness.

Taking Time to Create Peace

January 22nd, 2011

Following on on from The 2010 Bath Peace Ceremony on The International Day of Peace (21st September), I have focused my attention on doing in-depth holistic work to deepen my personal practice of peace. This includes a variety of creative and therapeutic interventions to heal and integrate the ongoing effects of post- traumatic stress disorder.

During this period, I have been meeting with our Advisors and Margaret Gibney, our new Director, to discuss how we can best combine our skills and experience to serve others.

Margaret and I are currently developing a series of workshops under the banner ‘Create Peace’. These will help enable others to put the Global Circle of Peace work into practice in a real way that can help enhance and transform their lives.

Our New Plans forThe International Day of Peace

November 20th, 2010

We have dcided to change direction and focus all our resources on creating Peace PAX – a peace offering for our times. This will take the form of an online Resource Pack of interactive multimedia material to cultivate inner and outer peace and will be launched on 21st September – The Internationa Day of Peace next year.

Having established the blueprint of an interactive multimedia Peace Ceremony this year ‘on a grand scale’, we offer the documentation of The 2010 Bath Peace Ceremony to inspire you and motivate you to create your own Peace Ceremonies in your family, group or community.

Vision New Possibilities & an inspirational quote by Patanjali

October 18th, 2010

Vision creates new possibilities. We are the vehicle through which new ideas can be born.  I hope that this quote by Patanjali , which I read in my closing speech at The 2010 Bath Peace Ceremony, will serve you and inspire you to see things in a new light. It has certainly had a huge impact on my life.

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds; your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.”

If we, as a global family, were to collectively align ourselves to ‘some great purpose’ what could happen in 2012? The only way we will know is by living it out. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if humanity chose to be a vehicle for a new possibility of unity and peace to be born in the world?

The more I delve into the practice of peace as a living reality,  the more I discover it is about mindfulness, creativity and conscious choice.

Exploratory meeting with John Struthers Director, ICIA (Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts), University of Bath

October 14th, 2010

Had an excellent meeting today with John Struthers to present our vision and discuss the possibility of our working together in some way over the next two years.  As a result of our conversation, we will be submitting a proposal to ICIA as a basis for further discussion.

The work of The Global Circle of Peace was inspired by the Olympic ideal of unity and peace and to chime with The London 2012 Olympics so it is the perfect timing to be thinking big, sowing seeds and daring to hold the highest vision that one possibly can.

Margaret Gibney: My Experience of The 2010 Bath Peace Ceremony

October 13th, 2010

The power that the Global Circle of Peace has to make peace a reality could not have been any more evident at the 2010 Bath Peace Ceremony!  I was moved to see so many people full of enthusiasm come together and give freely of their time and energy to help make the ceremony a success.  The ceremony itself stands out as an inspiring example of the unity, hope, humanity and healing that can emerge from a community coming together so creatively.

As well as being reminded of the reasons why peace and unity are so important, we were also given an experience of peace itself and the journey towards it. I think it was clear to everyone how much the night moved me and I want to say a special thanks to Abdullah for sharing his story.

For me creativity is healing and is a key part of the process towards real peace. I’d like to see more people in communities around the world create opportunities like this to come together and promote peace and already it seems like this will happen.

I was made to feel so welcome by you Lizzie, your friends and the people of Bath.  Thank you all so much for making me feel so at home and touching my life so deeply.  International Peace Day 2010 will be a time I will remember and cherish for life.

Bring on next year, I can’t wait!

1st Board of Advisors Meeting today – A warm welcome to Alan Macdonald

October 12th, 2010

Welcome to Alan Macdonald who joins\Founding Member, Abdullah Ali-Ahmadi on our Board of Advisors.

Alan has been actively involved in The Global Circle of Peace behind-the-scenes from the very start and has been hugely supportive in all kinds of ways.  Indeed he was the very first person with whom I shared the initial seed idea as I knew, with his background in advertising, communications and branding, that  he would give me a sound reality check that I could totally trust.

We are delighted to have someone so dynamic on board. Your vision, skills and experience are invaluable. Thank you for saying Yes! It is so important that we build a strong and diverse team of people.
